At Least Four Seek Vacant Ward 3 Seat

A former journalist is the latest person to announce a run for Saint John common council in May’s by-election.

Katelin Dean joins Brad Mitchell, Andrew Costin and David Hickey in the race to fill a vacancy in Ward 3.

She thinks municipal politics is the place where you can make the biggest difference in the day to day lives of people.

Dean says Saint John needs growth and to be culturally vibrant.

“That includes supporting arts and culture and tourism in really big ways. The more people we bring in, the more chance they will live here, stay here and pay taxes here.” Dean said in an interview.

Dean says another challenge is the city’s high poverty rates adding she sees it every day living in the south end and it needs to change.

She is hosting a “meet the candidate” event at Big Tide on April 14th at 2 pm.

Voters head to the polls on May 6th.
