Cherry Brook Zoo Faces Another Investigation

The Cherry Brook Zoo is at the centre of another investigation after the deaths of several guinea pigs.

Canada’s Accredited Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA) has launched its formal ethics and standards compliance investigation process.

CAZA is the country’s leading animal welfare standards development organization.

Last week, the New Brunswick SPCA announced it recommended charges of inhumane euthanasia and causing unnecessary pain and suffering after an investigation which began in January.

But after reviewing the case, Crown prosecutors decided not to lay charges.

Zoo officials have said they have a program where some animals are used as feed three times a year. They insist the animals are euthanized humanely as per guidelines set out by CAZA.

The organization says it will not be making any comments until its investigation is complete.
