Distracted Driving Convictions Could Affect Your Insurance Premiums

If you are a distracted driver and have had a few convictions for this, do not be surprised to see your insurance premiums going up or even finding it tough to get an insurance company to cover you down the road.

The Insurance Bureau of Canada’s Vice President Atlantic Amanda Dean says for now it is not being treated as severely as impaired driving convictions because that is a criminal code violation, However, multiple infractions may have a big impact.

” Eight or ten or even a suspension from an accident involving distracted driving absolutely your driving record could be impacted and therefore how an insurance company looks at you as a risk,” stated Dean.

There is good some advice for drivers out there.

Dean says ” Leave the phone alone, leave everything alone when you are in the car, this is Atlantic Canada and with the weather we have had we’ve got potholes, debris on the road and animals to look out for, so really driving takes our full attention.”
