There is a report of a dead North Atlantic right whale drifting in the Gulf of St. Lawrence northeast of the Magdalen Islands.
It was noticed during a Transport Canada aerial surveillance flight on Wednesday.
Fishery officers located the whale and were able to install a satellite tag on it.
Officials are looking at the options relating to recovering the whale and the necropsy.
