Necropsy Done On Fifth Right Whale

It has been a rough year so far the North Atlantic right whale in Canadian waters with eight of the mammals being found dead.

Necropsies have now been conducted on five with the fifth one found drifting in the Gulf of St. Lawrence area on July 18th.

The preliminary results are inconclusive as to the cause of its death.

The necropsy report shows no obvious signs of trauma from vessel strikes or any entanglement with any floating fishing gear.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says necropsies are time-consuming and final results of the five done so far this year will be available in the coming months.
