Legionnaire’s Disease Source Found In Moncton

Public health officials have determined that the 9 cases of legionnaire’s disease are linked to cooling towers in buildings in Moncton’s west end.

City officials are currently inspecting 26 buildings that may have infected cooling towers – part of the air conditioning system.

Dr. Yves Leger, regional medical officer of health, says further testing will be done and results could take weeks.

Despite this being a potentially deadly disease, there isn’t a high risk to the general public.

Some residents, including elders, smokers and people with low immune systems, lung or kidney disease are most at risk.

Leger says symptoms include coughing, chills, a high fever and muscle pains.

Anyone who may show symptoms is urged to seek medical attention.
