Roof Repairs Cause Problems For Uptown Library

The Saint John Free Public Library has become a moving library of sorts these last few weeks — but not by choice.

Library operations have been forced to relocate elsewhere in Market Square at least five days over the past two weeks.

Sarah Bustard, a spokesperson for the New Brunswick Public Library Service, said the main culprit is the smell of tar in the building due to ongoing roof repairs.

A small fire on the roof earlier this month also caused minor smoke and water damage, but Bustard said none of the collections were damaged.

She said construction will continue for the next few weeks so operations may have to be relocated again.
