City Officer Wins Gold At A Competition In China

A Saint John police officer picking up another gold medal in a very precise sport, this time at an international competition.

Constable James Smith took part in the small-bore category at the World Police and Fire Games in China where he shoots at a target.

“The small-bore rifle is the 22-calibre, basically known as the Olympic-style shooting at 50 metres with peep sights. So, no magnification just open sights.” Smith said.

He couldn’t compete in his regular category of large-bore as it wasn’t being offered at this event.

“They typically compete in China in the small-bore which is 50 metres so you can actually shoot indoors and/or out,” Smith said.

Smith won gold in Ohio this past June where he chose the small-bore category purposely knowing it wasn’t available in China.

He says he does want to keep competing but, he will take the next few months off and resume training later this year.
