Raccoon Deaths In Quispamsis Remain A Mystery

Officials in Quispamsis still do not know what caused the deaths of three raccoons found dead in Ritchie Lake in August.

The carcasses were sent to Fredericton to be examined by provincial veterinary laboratory and pathology services.

Officials with the environment department also took water and algae samples to see if the lake contained blue-green algae.

A staff report to town council Tuesday night said test results came back negative for the toxic bacteria in the lake.

Warning signs posted at the beach to make people aware of possible concerns have been removed.

Town officials ask anyone who may know what happened to the raccoons to come forward.
