Men Charged In Uptown Death Granted Bail

Two people charged following the death of a man in Saint John over the weekend have been granted bail.

Garett Edward Johnston, 22, and Gordon Mitchell McMillan, 23, appeared in Saint John provincial court Thursday.

The two Rothesay men are charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a 59-year-old man.

Saint John police said they found a man unconscious at the intersection of Waterloo and Union streets early Saturday morning.

The man was taken to the Saint John Regional Hospital, where he died from his injuries on Sunday.

Johnston and McMillan will have to follow several conditions, which include keeping the peace, not having contact with one another or several other people, staying away from bars, not possessing alcohol or drugs, and following an 11 p.m. curfew.

The two are scheduled to return to court on Dec. 6 for election and plea.
