Church In Uptown Saint John Turns 100

It is a huge day on Sunday for the Calvary Temple Church in uptown Saint John, it will mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of the building it uses at 83 Sydney Street.

Reverend Chad Nickerson says it will be a very special day for all who attend.

“It opened in November of 1919 and so at 10:30 Sunday morning we are having a combined worship service with the Church of Saint Andrew and Saint David, part of the original folks who started the building here as St. David’s presbyterian” stated Nickerson.

There will be some memory boards with pictures and displays at the service so people can see some of the history and a financial collection will be taken up to help with the Calvary Temple Church building fund.

In the evening, starting at 6 PM Saint Mary’s Band will be on hand to provide a musical interlude of both Christmas and non-Christmas music and Reverend Nickerson says people will have a chance to learn much more about the building. David Goss will be giving a short historical presentation of the building.

Nickerson says “Our congregation has been in this building for 54 years and we serve in a lot of very practical ways different programs and ministeries serving the practical needs of our neighbourhood.”
