A recent report by the New Brunswick Health Council shows some alarming stats about kids from grades six through 12 facing mental health challenges.
Close to 30 per cent of all students needed to talk to someone about a mental or emotional problem in the 12 months before the survey. About 10 per cent said they couldn’t get their needs met.
CEO Stephané Robichaud says we need to do a much better job of helping our kids.
“Get them to live more of pro-social activities that can be of benefit to them or be part of groups where they may share similar concerns, have support group type of structures in place,” stated Robichaud.
“There is also much we can do with the types of activities we can have in place and also understanding what we can do from a family setting, from a school setting and from a community setting.”
The survey was given to 39,000 students in 187 public schools, which is 98 per cent of the public schools in the province.
