Lockdown At Dorchester Penitentiary

A lockdown has been put in place in the medium-security unit at Dorchester Penitentiary.

Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) said the lockdown, which began Thursday morning, allows staff to conduct an “exceptional search.”

They said normal operations will resume once it is considered safe to do so, adding visits have been suspended until then.

Officials have not said what prompted the search, but in a news release, CSC said it is committed to preventing the entry of contraband into its institutions.
