What’s Open And Closed On New Year’s

Ahead of New Year’s Eve festivities, you may want to know what is open and what is closed.

All city offices close at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

If Tuesday is normally your garbage and compost day, there is no change today.

Regular Tuesday night collection moves to Wednesday night this week.

Saint John Transit and Comex are offering regular service and the City Market is open from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Alternate side parking takes effect at midnight Tuesday so make sure to move your car tonight.

What’s Open New Year’s Day

New Year’s Day is a federal statutory holiday, which means most stores and businesses are closed.

That includes grocery stores, department stores, malls and big-box stores.

Some pharmacies are open on reduced hours, so you’ll want to check ahead before going out.

Banks, post offices and all government offices are closed, along with NB Liquor and Cannabis NB stores.

Buses are not running and the City Market will be closed.

Garbage and compost collection follow the regular schedule.

As well, the Christmas Tree Drop-Off Program starts New Year’s Day.

A number of events are being held around the city to celebrate the arrival of 2020.
