K.V. Police Add New Technology

The Kennebecasis Regional Police Force has started 2020 with some new technology.

The force is the new owners of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.

The Mavic 2 Enterprise can be used in several ways including for search and rescue operations and at crime scenes.

Sergeant Evan Scott says it can be utilized for collision reconstruction if we want overall photography of the collision scene itself.

Scott says it can also in high-risk scenarios.

“So we can actually check out a situation [ to see] if we can deploy the UAV there and then we make a determination of the risk involved and deploy other resources,” Scott said.

The UAV comes equipped with spotlights and speakers and Sergeant Scott tells us messages can be recorded and played back for certain scenarios where it’s used.

Scott says force had a couple of UAVs for more than a year now, but they were not all certified for restricted air space.

“So we decided to acquire a new UAV which has been approved for controlled and uncontrolled airspace that would not provide those limitations,” Scott said.

The Mavic 2 Enterprise arrived just last week and Scott says four officers are trained to use it now.
