Campaign Aims To Collect Books

The fourth year of the Give Love, Feel Good campaign wants to build a love of reading in children by collecting books.

The campaign brings together Germain Street neighbours Duke Creative Collective and the Feel Good Store to make February “less of a drag”.

Katie Bowden, president of Duke Creative Collective, says it’s something small people can do that will have a big impact.

She says they want to give a book to each student attending schools in the priority neighbourhoods.

“There’s approximately 2,000 kids from grade kindergarten to grade two in our priority neighbourhoods so there’s a lot of kids,” Bowden said.

Bowden says each year, the campaign has a different focus.

“In our first year we did social media shout-outs for volunteers in the community, our second year we did postcards to newcomers in the English language programs at the Y, and in our third year we did winter clothing like mittens and hats for Romero House,” Bowden said.

Moosehead Breweries, Innovatia, the City of Saint John and the Saint John Police Force are also taking part as employees can donate books.

Books are being collected at the Feel Good Store (89 Germain Street), Duke Creative Collective (87 Germain Street) and the Saint John Police Force headquarters until Friday.
