Saint John has closed all of its play structures to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The closure took effect Thursday and will remain in place until further notice.
“While we understand that the Chief Medical Officer of Health has not directed the closure of play structures, we have been told that the decision can be made at the discretion of the City,” said Lisa Caissie, a spokesperson for the Saint John Emergency Measures Organization, in a statement.
“As our focus remains on doing what we can to protect as many people as possible from the spread of COVID-19, and in an abundance of caution, we have decided to temporarily close our play structures.”
City trails and parks, including areas around closed play structures, remain open to the public at this time.
The city reminds people to follow all directives from Public Health, which includes ensuring proper handwashing, maintaining a social distance of at least two metres from others, and avoiding public areas if you are sick.
