Oromocto Fire Displaces More Than 40 People

A fire at an Oromocto apartment building has forced more than 40 people from their homes.

The blaze broke out Wednesday afternoon in a four-storey building on Onondaga Street.

Officials say the fire was confined to one section of the top two storeys but there was smoke in other areas and the power was cut for safety reasons.

Two dozen tenants have been helped by the Canadian Red Cross while others have made their own arrangements.

According to the Red Cross, most tenants should be allowed to return home within a day or two.
