PM Says You Are Eligible For One, But Not Both Wage Subsidies

No double dipping. That’s the message to Canadians about a couple of wage subsidy programs being offered.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says if you receive two different payments you will have to pay one of those back.

“It is one or the other,” stresses Trudeau.

“Because of the uncertainty, because of the application process, it is possible that people will have received both the CERB and the wage subsidy. In that case, they will have to, over the course of the coming months, to pay one of them back.”

Trudeau says government agencies keep track of who get the CERB or the Canadian Emergency Wage Benefit through your employer.

Meanwhile, over 10,000 businesses have applied for the Canadian Emergency Wage Subsidy program.

Monday is the first day to begin the application process.

Trudeau is for any businesses large and small and they are eligible for employee subsidy of up to 75 per cent.
