Saint John To Mark 235th Birthday Virtually

Saint John will mark its 235th birthday on Monday, but the celebrations will look different because of COVID-19.

In lieu of the annual festivities which take place, the city is hosting a virtual celebration on its Facebook page.

Residents are being encouraged to find unique ways to celebrate that continue to follow Public Health restrictions.

The city suggests hosting a Victorian tea party, taking an historic walking tour, ordering take-out from your favourite local restaurant, or just enjoying some tunes form local musicians.

You can share your celebrations on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #MySaintJohn.

The city’s birthday on Monday also marks the 237th anniversary of the landing of the Loyalists.

The United Empire Loyalists Association commissioned Shannon Webb-Campbell, a mixed-Indigenous settler poet, writer, and critic currently based in Saint John, to create a poem in honour of the city’s 235th anniversary.
