Injured Person Rescued From Hiking Trail

One person was taken to the hospital Monday after being rescued from a hiking trail in the Black Beach area of Saint John.

Josh Hennessy, acting platoon chief with the Saint John Fire Department, said they were called to the Black Beach Road and Lighthouse Road area shortly before 3 p.m.

Hennessy said it was determined the off-road rescue unit and high-angle rescue team would be needed to help.

“Ambulance New Brunswick, with two primary care paramedics and one advanced care paramedic, with 13 personnel from the Saint John Fire Department were able to successfully locate, access, stabilize and transport the patient off the rugged Fundy coastline,” said Hennessy.

The patient suffered a broken leg and was transported to hospital for treatment, said Hennessy.

Crews were on scene for more than two hours.
