With only one current case of COVID-19 in New Brunswick, it may require a reminder that the pandemic isn’t over yet.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jennifer Russell says, “I think going into the fall, people need to be prepared for whatever happens.”
Health officials across the country have identified, that there will be a second wave of COVID-19 at some point.
Dr. Russell says, “The goal is to be able to stay in yellow as we go through any number of cases as we go forward. Obviously, if we go over a certain threshold, we will have to move back into orange or red, but that is something we want to avoid at all costs.”
Officials say it is hard to predict what a second wave will look like, in terms of cases.
It’s expected we will have to continue physical distancing, wearing masks, and taking extra precautions until a vaccine is found.
Dr. Russell says, “We can’t get away from the fact that it is with us right now. We know that the approach works, and we will plan extensively for the fall in terms of all the different scenarios that could unfold. One of the other challenges we also need to deal with now is the negative impacts that we saw during the first wave, with regards to mental health, finances and the economy.”
New Brunswick currently has one active case in the Fredericton area.
