More Businesses Would Have Closed Without CEWS – Moncton Chamber

The extension and expansion of the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) is being called fantastic news by the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton.

CEO John Wishart says the business owners they talked to felt the previous August deadline for the CEWS looked daunting.

“The one federal program that they kept citing as crucial to their survival was the wage subsidy. Without it, I think we would have seen more business closures,” he says.

Wishart says extending the CEWS to December will give businesses a lifeline and for many will coincide with the end of their fiscal year.

He adds hopefully they will be in better shape by then and ready to carry on.
