Police say four people were taken into custody Wednesday evening after a firearms-related call in the north end of Saint John.
Sgt. Stephen Wilson said they were called to the area of Main and Kennedy streets around 7:45 p.m.
“We had several calls on persons with firearms and, as a result, police responded here,” said Wilson. He declined to provide any other details about the call itself.
More than a dozen officers responded to the call, including the K9 unit, he said. Only a handful of officers remained at the scene around 9 p.m.
Wilson would not say if any shots were fired or if anyone was hurt during the incident. He did say officers were still seeking “some persons of interest” but did not say how many.
As for the four people taken into custody, Wilson said they would be interviewed to determine what happened.
“It’ll be determined during the course of the investigation if there will be any charges laid or if they’ll be released without,” he said.
The Major Crime Unit has been called in to investigate, said Wilson.
