Before the pandemic, the Anglophone South School District had 228 buses travelling about 990 routes in southern New Brunswick.
Superintendent Zoe Watson said the Department of Education and Early Childhood Developed has asked that loads being significantly reduced for the coming year.
Parents were recently surveyed about transportation asking them for their assistance in regularly transporting their kids to school.
“Either morning or afternoon or both,” Watson said.
The goal, according to Watson, is to have minimal changes to the ways busing works.
“We could have changes to drop-off and pick-up times, relocation of bus stops,” Watson said.
Watson said transportation staff are examining each route to see how they can reduce the number of students travelling on buses.
Before the pandemic, the school district provided transportation to students who live more than 1.5 kilometres from the school.
“As much as possible, we want to maintain that level of service,” Watson said.
The information provided by parents on how much they can help in getting their kids to and from school will assist in transportation planning for the new school year.
