Kevin Vickers To Make Cybersecurity A Priority If Elected

The leader of the Liberal party says if elected, his government would prioritize the cybersecurity industry.

Kevin Vickers says worldwide, there are expected to be around 1.8 million new jobs in cybersecurity before 2022.

He feels the province needs to go after the cybersecurity industry like Frank McKenna went after contact centres, “Today the industry employs 19, 000 New Brunswickers and contributes 1.5 billion dollars to our economy each and every year. If we show the same hustle today, as we did back then, I believe cybersecurity could have even greater positive effects on our province’s economy.”

He adds, these are jobs that pay salaries over $75, 000.

“Imagine what a positive impact this could have on the province’s economy. This is a huge opportunity for new sustainable economic growth,” Vickers says.

He says the province needs to invest in technology that will stop the hackers from getting into the computers and committing crimes.
