KV Remembrance Day Ceremony Cancelled

Another Remembrance Day ceremony in the region has been cancelled due to the pandemic.

Officials in the Kennebecasis Valley say their annual service at the qplex will not be going ahead.

More than 1,500 people usually gather for the ceremony since it was first moved indoors in 2013.

But officials say physical distancing requirements and a ban on large gatherings make it impossible to hold a traditional service.

Heather McClintock of Royal Canadian Legion Kennebecasis Branch #58 encouraged people to honour veterans in their own private way.

“The sacrifices that were made for our country still deserve to be recognized,” said McClintock in a statement.

Organizers of the Saint John Remembrance Day Ceremony have also cancelled this year’s event at TD Station.

Instead, they will hold a smaller service at the cenotaph in King’s Square uptown. Plans are in the works to livestream the ceremony so residents can watch from home.
