Sussex Superstore Evacuated After Fire

No injuries were reported after a fire broke out at the Atlantic Superstore in Sussex on Thursday.

Emergency crews were called to the store on Lower Cove Road just before 10 a.m. Thursday.

Jason Howe, deputy chief of the Sussex Fire Department, said crews found heavy smoke in a deep fryer in the cooking area.

“Crews extinguished the fire that was found in the cooking area,” Howe said in an email. “The fire was contained to that section of the store.”

Howe said it took crews about an hour to ventilate the smoke from the building.

Everyone had been evacuated from the store by the time emergency crews arrived, he said.
