E.I. Waiting Period Temporarily Waived

You won’t have to wait a week if you’re applying for employment insurance benefits.

The federal government is temporarily waiving the waiting period because of the continued pandemic.

It allows people who apply to receive benefits to be paid for their first week of unemployment.

A similar waiver is already in place for those applying for federal sick leave benefits.

The change impacts any new claim filed between January 31st and September 25th.
