Phone Number Error Leads To Confusion For Some NBers

A phone number misprint in a Government of New Brunswick letter left some people scratching their heads.

The letter from New Brunswick’s Border Enforcement Support team included a 1-888 number for anyone who needed additional assistance.

But when dialed, it didn’t reach the provincial government.

Instead, it said, “Welcome to America’s hottest talkline! Guys, hot ladies are waiting to talk to you! Press one now. Ladies, to talk to interesting and exciting guys free, press two to connect free now!”

We reached out to the Government of New Brunswick for clarification.

Spokesperson Coreen Enos told us, “On February 2, a letter was sent out to 140 residents of Listiguj and Pointe-à-la-Croix regarding information related to frequent travel. It contained an incorrect phone number for our travel registration line. This was a clerical error that was not identified until after the letters were mailed out. We have sent new letters to these recipients explaining the error with the correct phone number. We regret the error and any confusion this has caused.”

Turns out, it should have been a 1-833 number instead.

Our newsroom tried the 1-888 phone number again this morning and it now tells callers to press 9 for directory assistance.
