New N.S. Premier, Cabinet To Be Sworn In Tuesday

Nova Scotia’s new premier will be sworn in on Tuesday.

Premier-designate Iain Rankin and his cabinet are set to be sworn in at a ceremony in Halifax by Lt.-Gov. Arthur LeBlanc.

Rankin beat out candidates Labi Kousoulus and Randy Delorey for Liberal leadership on Feb. 6th and will take over for outgoing premier Stephen McNeil.

First elected in 2013, Rankin sat as the Minister of Lands and Forestry since 2018, with a brief stint as Minister of Environment the year before.

During his career, Rankin’s most notable actions stem from his time as Minister of Environment, including pushing an environmental assessment of Boat Harbour, becoming the first politician to recognize the situation as environmental racism.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the ceremony will not be open to the public but will be livestreamed from the Halifax Convention Centre starting at 10 a.m.
