Council Expected To Award Fundy Quay Seawall Tender

It is gearing up to be a busy Monday night at Saint John Common Council with several big items on the agenda.

Council is expected to approve a $7.9-million tender for the Fundy Quay seawall refurbishment and a storm sewer outfall project at the site.

It will also consider a $438,000 proposal submitted by Dillon Consulting for engineering services at Fundy Quay.

Also on the agenda is a public hearing to discuss fee changes under the city’s zoning and heritage conservation area bylaws.

The changes are expected to generate an extra $17,000 in revenue for the city each year.

Council will also consider a bylaw amendment allowing for a three-storey addition to the old Saint John County Courthouse.

This would allow the Saint John Theatre Company to turn the site into a performance venue and community space.

Councillors are also expected to approve $152,000 in service agreements for organizations in the city’s five priority neighbourhoods.

They include P.U.L.S.E. (People United in the Lower South End); Crescent Valley Resource Centre Inc.; ONE Change Inc.; Waterloo Village Neighbourhood Association; TRC (The Resource Centre) for Youth in Greater Saint John, Inc.; Around the Block Community Newspaper; and Westside PACT.

Council is also expected to consider approving the first and second reading of a bylaw banning single-use plastic checkout bags as of July 1.

The virtual meeting begins at 6 p.m. You can see the full agenda on the city’s website.
