New Brunswick EMO is warning about the risk of ice movement and ice jams over the next couple of days.
“People living or working along streams, tributaries and rivers should remain on alert,” NBEMO said in a news release Friday.
The warning comes amid recent mild temperatures and up to 50 millimetres of rain in the forecast for parts of the province.
Officials say the frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall combined with melting snow.
“Increasing flows and water levels are expected over the next 48 hours,” said NBEMO.
During the River Watch season, which began March 10, people with property near a waterway or in an area prone to flooding are encouraged to move their belonging to higher ground.
New Brunswickers are reminded to avoid the banks of waterways as the water is cold and swift currents could be carrying debris.
