Fifth Person Still Missing After Elsipogtog Fishing Vessel Sinks

The Halifax Joint Rescue Coordination Centre has suspended its search after a fishing boat that sank over the weekend.

The call from the FV Tyhawk-Elsipogtog first came in near Cheticamp, Nova Scotia on Saturday evening.

A vessel in the area found four people in the water and they were transported to hospital. One of them passed away.

A Cormorant helicopter and Hercules aircraft searched the area for a fifth person for 25 hours before suspending the search last night.

The crew member who died has been identified on social media as 39-year-old Seth Monaghan.

The other, Captain Jonathan Sock is still missing.

Premier Blaine Higgs shared his sympathies on social media and expressed his support to the community.

A candlelight vigil was held on the Elsipogtog First nation last night and requests on social media, asked for outside lights to be left on in an effort to help guide Captain Sock home.
