Rothesay Council Passes Plastic Bag Ban

A ban on plastic bags at the checkout will begin on June 30th in the town of Rothesay.

The town has joined the communities of Quispamsis, Grand Bay-Westfield and Saint John who already passed similar bans.

Rothesay Town council passed the plastic bag reduction by-law at Monday’s meeting.

Mayor Nancy Grant said with move they have given “a big nod to the environment”.

The Fundy Regional Service Commission asked all Saint John area municipalities to put a ban in place by July 1.

The Commission estimates that 35 million plastic bags are used every year in the region.
