A boil water advisory has been issued for users of the Town of Saint Andrews water system.
The town says the advisory was issued by the Department of Health following maintenance at its water treatment facility.
“A boil water advisory is issued when the Department of Health receives information that indicates a water supply is a health risk for consumers,” said a notice posted on the town’s Facebook page.
The notice said all water used for consumption should be held at a rolling boil for at least one minute.
That includes water used for drinking, preparing infant formulas and juices, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking and dental hygiene.
Officials said water used for other household purposes does not need to be boiled unless advised differently by the department.
“Adults, adolescents and older children may shower, bathe or wash using tap water but should avoid swallowing the water,” said the notice. “Toddlers and infants should be sponge bathed and caregivers need to ensure no water is drunk or swallowed.”
Tap water can also be used to wash dishes and laundry, said the notice.
There is no word on how long the boil water advisory will remain in effect.
