Standoff Suspect Makes Court Apperance

A man arrested after an hours-long standoff in west Saint John made a brief court appearance Monday.

Police say David Morrison is facing a weapons charge following Sunday’s standoff on Ludlow Street West.

The 50-year-old man remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court on Thursday for a bail hearing.

Police said they went to a west side home around 2 a.m. Sunday to arrest a man as part of an ongoing investigation.

They said the man resisted and produced a weapon, which led to tactical officers and negotiators being called in.

One person was taken into custody without incident just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Meanwhile, police have yet to lay any charges after a standoff in the south end last Thursday.

Officers got a report of a man waving around a weapon, possibly a gun, outside of a Charlotte Street pizza shop around 2:40 p.m.

Sgt. Mike Damon said officers pursued a suspect to an address on Charlotte Street near Duke Street.

Tactical officers and the K9 unit were brought in and three people were taken into custody before 5 p.m. Thursday.
