Child Unhurt After Bullet Strikes Crib: Police

Police say a 22-year-old man is facing charges after a bullet struck the crib of a sleeping baby in Rothesay over the weekend.

The Kennebecasis Regional Police Force said officers responded to an apartment building on Sierra Avenue on Saturday.

Insp. Anika Becker said after hearing the sound of a gunshot, a resident found a bullet had come through the floor of his child’s bedroom and struck a crib.

Becker said a 20-month-old child sleeping in the crib at the time was not hurt, but the crib and room were damaged.

“Police secured the scene and arrested a male resident of the building, and later executed a search warrant at the apartment of the suspect,” Becker wrote in a news release Monday.

According to Becker, the officers seized a firearm and ammunition.

The suspect was released from custody and is due in court on July 20 to face several firearms and criminal negligence charges.
