Human Remains Discovered Near Port Elgin

RCMP are investigating the discovery of human remains behind an abandoned mobile home in Coburg near Port Elgin.

Corporal Hans Ouellette says the remains were found on a dirt road known as Quarry Road, after information was received from the public, “Police were in the area conducting a search as a part of the investigation into the disappearance of Jamie Leard.”

The 38-year-old man was last seen on May 26th, and was reported missing two days later.

Leard’s abandoned vehicle was found in Springhill, Nova Scotia the same day, and RCMP say his disappearance is suspicious.

“We cannot confirm yet that we have located the boy of Jamie Leard. Our investigators have been in contact with the family to keep them informed of the discovery and we are continuing to investigate,” Ouellette says.

Leard is from Upper Cape, which is near Port Elgin.

An autopsy has been ordered to positively identify the remains and determine the cause of death.
