91 King Street Now A Pile Of Rubble

91 King Street is all but a distant memory for residents in the Greater Saint John region.

The building, known to many as “the former Woolworth’s,” has been reduced to a pile of rubble.

Demolition of the building, and the one next to it, began last week to make way for new development.

It is expected to take a few more weeks to remove all of the rubble and other debris from the site.

Developer Percy Wilbur bought the two buildings in December and plans to construct a 12-storey mixed-use building.

Wilbur hopes to have a grocery store on the first floor, two floors of office space, and nine residential floors totalling 93 apartment units. There will also be two levels of underground parking.

He said construction will not begin until the project has locked in a few tenants, which he believes could take up to a few months after demolition.
