More Interviews Done For Investigation Into Mystery Brain Illness

Research continues to try and determine the cause for a mystery neurological illness.

New Brunswick Health Minister Dorothy Shephard says, “There have been 23 completed interviews using the enhanced epidemiological survey, up from sixteen competed interviews last week. Several more have been scheduled over the next few weeks in keeping with the timeline.”

She adds this review process is a detailed one, “We knew it would require a few months before the work of the committee would be completed. The oversight committee’s work will also help determine whether there are any common links between cases, the potential for other diagnosis and whether there can be treatment offered for some cases.”

Public Health says there are currently 48 cases under investigation and six deaths.

Shephard says, “The oversight committee is working closely with Public Health NB to ensure relevant combined information on the potential cluster is shared with the public in a timely manner. It will also be reviewing the data from the advance epidemiological survey along with the other case information.”
