City Prepared For Elsa Impacts

The City of Saint John and its Emergency Management Organization are keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Elsa.

Elsa is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the region overnight and into Saturday.

City crews are checking catch basins, drains, culverts, wastewater collection systems, and wastewater lift stations.

Crews will also be on stand-by for fallen trees.

Due to the risk for localized flooding and power outages, Saint John EMO suggests having a 72-hour emergency kit ready to go.

Residents are also reminded to steer clear of shorelines and beaches during the storm and to secure deck furniture and barbeques.

Travellers using the Fundy Rose ferry are being warned of cancellations and delays due to Elsa.

Bay Ferries said the 5:30 p.m. departure from Digby, N.S., has been cancelled and the 8 a.m. Saturday department from Saint John has been delayed until 10 p.m.
