BEI Completes Report Into Alleged RCMP Assault In Campbellton

The Quebec Bureau of Independent Investigation has completed its probe into allegations of assault by an RCMP officer.

This comes after a man was allegedly beaten by an officer during an arrest in July in Campbellton.

In a video, it appears the man was struck numerous times by the officer.

In a news release, the Bureau enquêtes enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) says it forwarded its report to the New Brunswick Public Prosecution Service this week.

Based on the assessment, the PPS will now determine whether or not charges should be laid against the officer.

The report from the BEI is not made public because it contains statements from witnesses as well as evidence.
