NB Paralympians Preparing To Compete In Tokyo

Four athletes from New Brunswick will compete at the upcoming Tokyo Paralympics Games.

Now that the Olympics have ended and athletes have returned home, it’s the Paralympians turn.

The 2020 Paralympics games will be held from August 24th to September 5th.

A total of 128 Canadians athletes will be taking part.

Four is the highest number of New Brunswick athletes to ever attend.

Danielle Dorris of Moncton will compete in Para-swimming, Kamylle Frenette of Dieppe in Para-Triathlon, Colin Higgins of Rothesay and Danielle Duplessis of Fredericton, will both be looking for a medal in Wheelchair Basketball.

Ryan Allen of Moncton is also going as a Para-Swim Coach.

55 athletes are sets to make Paralympic debut, and the team also includes 26 Paralympic medalists.

Canada will be competing in 18 sports in Tokyo: wheelchair basketball, Para swimming, Para athletics, wheelchair rugby, sitting volleyball, Para cycling, Para rowing, goalball, boccia, Para equestrian, Para triathlon, wheelchair fencing, Para canoe, Shooting Para sport, Para archery, Para badminton, Para judo, and wheelchair tennis.

Chef de Mission for the Tokyo 2020 Canadian Paralympic Team Stephanie Dixon says, “It has been a challenging 18 months preparing for these Games. For some athletes, this will be their first international competition in nearly two years. It is a huge accomplishment to compete at these Paralympic Games, and everyone has been working so hard for this opportunity. I know we will see some remarkable performances in Tokyo and hear about some equally remarkable stories.”
