Freight Train Derailed Outside Moncton

A freight train derailed about 30 miles west of Moncton on Saturday, according to a spokesperson for CN.

A total of 30 cars derailed including 20 that fell onto their side.

Tiffany Edwards, manager of public and government affairs, said crews have begun cleaning the scene.

“At this time, it’s still too soon to evaluate how long the clean-up process will take.”

Edwards added that the incident did not involve any injuries, fire, or dangerous goods.

As a result of the derailment, train traffic was rerouted to the Newcastle line.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
