Charges Laid In Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash

Saint John police say two people have been charged in connection with a fatal collision involving a cyclist earlier this year.

Police say charges were laid against Shantel Raeburn, 23, and Shane James, 45, in Saint John provincial court on Wednesday.

Raeburn is charged with failing to stop at an accident resulting in death and attempting to obstruct justice. James faces a single charge of attempting to obstruct justice.

Police say a 62-year-old man riding his bicycle along Crown Street on May 28 was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

The victim, who police later identified as Philip MacMillan, died from his injuries in hospital on June 3.

Raeburn and James are scheduled to return to court on Oct. 1 for election and plea.
