Inmate Escapes Custody At County Jail

Saint John police are looking for an inmate who escaped from a facility at the county jail.

Police say 46-year-old Terrance Smith escaped from a temporary housing unit at the correctional facility on Old Black River Road around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Corrections staff noticed he was missing on Friday morning and contacted the police.

Smith is about 5’9″ tall with a thin build, dark hair and a beard.

He was last seen wearing the standard-issue orange top and pants and a navy blue coat.

Smith is serving a sentence for several charges including assaulting a peace officer, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.
