UPDATED: Man Dies After Weekend Incident Uptown

Police say an 18-year-old Saint John man has been pronounced dead after being pulled from the water in the city’s uptown over the weekend.

First responders were called to Pugsley Wharf for a report of a person in the water around 11:40 a.m. Sunday.

Platoon Chief Ed Moyer with the Saint John Fire Department said firefighters found one person in the water when they arrived at the scene.

“One firefighter then entered the water and brought the person to the wharf,” said Moyer. “Firefighters performed CPR and then carried the patient to the awaiting ambulance.”

In a news release Monday afternoon, the Saint John Police Force said the man was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident but do not anticipate any criminal charges,” said the release.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saint John Police Force at 506-648-3333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
