N.B. Officials To Provide Update On COVID-19

Provincial officials have scheduled a live COVID-19 briefing for 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Dr. Jennifer Russell, the province’s chief medical officer of health, and Premier Blaine Higgs will take part.

Since the most recent briefing last Tuesday, the province has reported nearly 600 new cases and 24 deaths.

But the number of active cases has steadily fallen from 1,074 on Oct. 13 to 761 as of Oct. 20.

The briefing comes one day before a 14-day circuit breaker in parts of the province is expected to end.

As of Wednesday, 55 people were in the hospital due to COVID-19, including 16 people in an intensive care unit. Two of those in the hospital are under the age of 20.

Public Health said 82.9 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers were fully vaccinated as of Wednesday, while 91.8 per cent had received their first dose of a vaccine.

Thursday’s update will be livestreamed on the Government of New Brunswick’s YouTube channel.
