It is time once again to start preparing for the inevitable overnight parking bans in Saint John.
Temporary on-street parking bans are declared to help clear snow from the streets after a storm.
“Temporary parking bans allow plow crews to push snow back to the curb or remove snow in its entirety on all streets to maintain access through all streets,” the city said in a news release.
“This provides maximum street width for the purpose safe vehicular travel and storage for subsequent snowstorm events.”
There are two types of bans: one for the south-central peninsula, another for north, east and west areas of the city.
When bans are declared in the south-central peninsula, five off-street lots will be made available for overnight parking.
But when a ban is issued in the north, east and west areas of the city, it is up to residents to find their own parking.
When issued, overnight parking bans run from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. in the south-central peninsula, and from midnight to 7 a.m. in the north, east and west areas.
“Any vehicles remaining on a street when the parking ban is in effect will be ticketed and/or towed at the owner’s risk and expense,” said the release.
Bans are declared no later than 3:45 p.m. the day of the ban and will be done through a recorded information line (506-658-4040), media announcements, and the city’s website.
